: hi. i'm bill o'reilly. will libya become a major scandal fort obama administration? that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. today a house committee held hearings on the giant screwup that occurred immediately after our ambassador to libya, christopher stevens, was asassed on september 11. many believe the obama administration initially covered up what was a terrorist attack by saying the violence might have been generated by an anti-muslim tape. we now know ambassador stevens, foreign service officer sean smith, former navy seal and two others were killed in a planned terrorist attack. the situation has the potential, potential to damage president obama's reelection chances. let's take it step by step in a methodical way. on september 12, president obama reacted to the murder of ambassador stevens by first discussing the anti-muslim tape. >> we reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, but there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence. none. >> bill: the next day, secretary of state hillary clinton

to talk what they strive to do is paint a contrast betwee them and the obama administration. the contra becom p thr posturg. hoare we going to approh foreign policy differently? the posture is that obama's foreign policy is lead from behind, i think mitt romney is really lean forward. we're trying to use our influence in the middle east to -- but really we're trying to use our influence in the region to get the outcomes we want in order to shape the policies that we want, in order to receive the outcomes that we want in the middle east. >> let's be honest, posturing is what we've got here. was his speech heavy on detail or light on detail? >> i'm stealing this from someone on twitter who said the difference between romney and obama on foreign policy is romney says speak louder but carry the same stick. sort of teddy roosevelt line. what's striking in the speech is overall the differences between romney and obama on foreign policy are not actually that great. it's about how do we deal with the syrian rebels and romney's more forthright but still hedging about whether we're going to arm t

been hitting the obama administration for china policies, specifically arguing that the president of the united states has not done enough to protect the u.s. economy from china's alleged currency manipulation and unfair trade practices. at each event today, mitt romney and paul ryan have been trying to thump mr. obama for his absence of leadership on this, they say. here is a sampling from earlier today at mr. romney's convenient in portsmouth, ohio. >> over the past several years, the president failed to call china a currency manipulator. he had the occasion on friday to come out with that official designation. you know what they said? we're not going to make any determination until after the election. let me tell you, on day one of my administration, i will label china a currency manipulator. >> here in ohio, that is a particularly potent attack because the manufacturing base had taken such a hit over the past few years, both in the obama economy and before. paul ryan was campaigning today in youngtown, ohio. he made the point that mr. obama has had a number of chances to take
, with the exception of libya which is a special case which the obama administration is clearly on defense. what came across is there is a huge difference in style and attitude how these two campaigns will approach things. when they got to the policies, the two sides are remarkably similar. the romney campaign has throughout this campaign been trying hard to make this big contrast on foreign policy while actually keeping their policies fairly close on afghanistan, syria, on iran, to where the administration is. both sides want a withdrawal in 2014. the difference here is that the romney campaign won't call it a deadline for withdrawal, but they want to withdraw in 2014. both sides support the same set of sanctions for iran. the difference is that the romney campaign may have done something different earlier and may have gone less through the u.n. and may have been more vocal about their criticism of u.n. both have the same policy on syria. the difference is the romney campaign wouldn't have gone through the u.s., wouldn't have been more vocal and supported syrian opposition earlier. on the actual pol
